How to Level Up Junior Developers / Learning Styles

June 6, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

This month we have a special event – Joe Burgess from the Flatiron School in NYC is coming to talk to us about How To Level Up Junior Developers! Also, Dr. Faith Wallace will open for Joe with a talk on Learning Styles. It’s an education themed night!

IMPORTANT NOTE: We are holding this event in a DIFFERENT VENUE! Don’t go to the wrong place!

First Topic: Learn to Code With Your Best Learning Styles

Learning styles are the brain’s preferred method of learning new material that enables you to comprehend and retain content. Knowing your learning styles can help you choose the right instructional resources to be successful. Dr. Faith Wallace will use the Harry Potter series to illustrate the learning styles of the characters and teachers in the magical world, then apply that to teaching & learning JavaScript.

Main Topic: How to Level Up Junior Developers

Joe will be talking about tips and strategies for leveling up junior engineers quickly and efficiently. This includes both strategies on what tasks to assign, how to motivate junior engineers as well as tips on how to use the concepts of good storytelling to teach junior engineers. After a few years as a freelance Rails and iOS developer, Joe transitioned to teaching at Flatiron School where he built the iOS course. Currently, he runs the education department at Flatiron School, a coding bootcamp based in NYC.
